Homogeneous Sound with Utmost Performance Flexibility
Vienna Dimension Strings II includes four string sections of 8 violins, 6 violas, 6 cellos, and 4 double basses that have been recorded in groups, but with individual microphones for each player, allowing for individual access to each voice. Users may create their personalized string sound, e.g., by adjusting level and position in the mix for each player, or desk. Individual controllers such as velocity crossfade and expression can be assigned for each player, resulting in natural "imperfect" dynamic changes within the ensemble. What's more, each string of each instrument has been captured in its full range (approximately one octave plus a fifth).
With ready-made presets, such as "force strings" or "use/avoid open strings", users may easily select a darker or brighter sound according to their needs. Advanced features such as pre-configured divisi sections with flexible groupings (e.g., 4 desks with 2 players each or 2 groups with 4 players each) as well as Human Performance Control in order to adjust the timing and intonation of each player are provided when using the optional Vienna Instruments Pro player.
Silky Smooth And Dark Timbres
Vienna Dimension Strings II contains nearly the same playing techniques as its companion volume Dimension Strings I, but all instruments are exclusively recorded "con sordino" (with mutes). Playing with mutes dampens the transmission of energy from the strings to the body of the instrument and softens or darkens the sound, offering all-new sonic subtleties. The effect of these silky smooth timbres perfectly suits intimate arrangements and emotional ballads, or envelops a sensitive cue with subtle intensity.
